VWP is the Visa Waiver Program. It allows nationals of certain
countries, like the UK, to enter the US for a short term visit without a
visa, assuming they are qualified. In most cases, a born and bred UK
citizen who has never been arrested will qualify, and will only need a
passport for a holiday visit.

There are a number of restrictions on who can enter visa-free under the
program, like you can't be a working journalist, can't study, and can't
take any work. Further, passports have to comply with certain
machine-readable standards, which apply after October for UK citizens.
