When we did it a couple years ago, we left Vegas around
8 am and got to the south rim of the Grand Canyon
around 1 pm. (We made a couple of very brief stops for
food/rest rooms.) Spent the afternoon there, left
around 6 pm and got back to Vegas around 11 pm.

It was a lot of driving, and a lot of the drive was rather
boring, but we were glad we made the trip as the Canyon
is so spectacular. But it's defintely better to spend a
night at the Canyon if you can.
