I haven't travelled on this route, but I did take the train from Los Angeles
to Oakland this spring; my answers reflect my experiences on that trip.

There are no specific seat numbers reserved for you. At the check-in
you'll be given a coach number, and the train attendant of that coach
will find seats for you. Single passengers may be asked to change seats
to make room for people traveling together.

Don't know. Why not call Amtrak and ask them? (800-USA-RAIL)

Meals in the dining car range between $10 and $15, non-alcoholic beverages
(accompanying a meal) are free.

You won't have to wait for a stop; food is sold at any time during the
trip. Just wait for the conductor to collect your tickets before you
walk along the train.

You'll have *lots* of space and reclining seats, so it should be possible
to get some sleep.
