Subject: What's with the Calif. agricultural checks? Posted on: Sun, 5 Dec 2004 08:23:18 -0800

Hello... I'm from B.C., and usually drive down to San Diego 4 times a
year. ....Coming into Calif. from any direction by vehicle, one must
pass through an agricultural road check station where they ask you if
you're carrying any plants or fruits. ...It was an expected stop for us
for the obligatory question, but also an opportunity to obtain a free
Calif. road map. ..For the past 2 years now, we've passed through the
station, but all they have there now is a sign that says: "Please
proceed-- No agricultural check today" ....Have the bugs all
disappeared, or did some bureaucrat finally realize the futility of the
system and decide: here's a good place to save some tax money? ...I do
note, there still is a check-point there for the semis. ...Jon
