New York City is in itself a theme park. And it is all real. Of course,
if you prefer ersatz versions of life in the U.S., then Disneyworld it
must be. And if Disneyworld is not touristy, then what is?
There are beaches adjacent to New York City, on Long Island. Jones Beach
is one. Whether it is open in September, I don't know. Labor Day pretty
much marks the end of the beach season here, at least so far as life guards
and beach amenities are concerned.
St. Petersburg and Clearwater in Florida have nice beaches and Tampa is
a hop, skip and jump from St. Pete and has a couple of theme parks.
Busch Gardens and some kind of wild animal park -- others will correct me
if I am wrong. And you could drive up the Coast to Tarpon Springs where
there are fake sponge divers and good Greek food. You'll have to have a
car in Florida to get around at all, but not in New York City.
