MTA rail serves the Hollywood area very well. The red line has stops
at Hollywood and Vine, Hollywood and Highland, and Hollywood and
Western. Add the Universal City stop and that's a good chunk of the
Hollywood area tourist area.
The red line also serves downtown Los Angeles. And, if you're willing
to ride a bus, it's fifteen-minute bus ride [25 cents on a DASH bus]
from from downtown to Exposition Park [California Science Center, Los
Angeles County Museum of Natural History, California State
Afro-American Museum] and USC. Also from downtown, fifteen minutes on
a different bus line [MTA 720] takes you to the Los Angeles County
Museum of Art.
The gold line serves Pasadena. Along the way, there's a stop at the
Southwest Museum [of the American Indian, part of the Autry National
Center]. There are several stops in the Old Town Pasadena area. From
Old Town, it's about a twenty minute walk to the Norton Simon Museum.
The blue line runs down to Long Beach, and puts you at a free shuttle
bus stop to the Aquarium of the Pacific. If you don't take the
shuttle, it's about a twenty minute walk to the aquarium.
