I was trying to be funny!

I nearly puked when I saw that they had named the turnpike after one of
our worst presidents in history! I was also amazed at how expensive it
was to use the turnpike, at least $15 from Fort Lauderdale to Wildwood,
and those g-d awful toll booths (the old card system was much better
IMVAIO). There was a lot of construction, and it wasn't a pleasant ride
(December 2004).

Coming back from Gainesville we went through the Ocala National Forest,
and down I-95, much less boring, and a heck of a lot cheaper.

When I was in college, we used to take U.S. 27 down to Andytown
(http://www.ghosttowns.com/states/fl/andytown.html) to avoid the
turnpike, though we did have a way to pay much less in tolls than we
should have (I should send a check to the Turnpike for all the tolls we
evaded!).
