The cheapest rooms in the Vanderbilt Y and the West Side Y are $75 a
night. I have stayed at the Vanderbilt Y and would stay there again.
It's convenient to transportation and most of the guests are young
international tourists. I've heard that the West Side Y is equally
nice. The Harlem Y has rooms for $50 a night, but I have no experience
with it. In Brooklyn, the Greenpoint Y has singles for $48 a night and
deluxe singles for $58 a night. Again, I have no experience. The
Flushing Y has only doubles and triples, and they cost more than $60 a
night.
Here is the link to all the New York Y's:

According to their web page, the HI hostel on 103rd St has a few
single rooms, but when I tried to reserve one to see how much it
costs, it wasn't one of the choices offered. To stay in a dorm costs
$29 or $32, plus an additional fee if you're not a member. I have
stayed at this hostel twice, and was not disappointed with it. Again
most guests are young tourists. However, the Vanderbilt Y is more
comfortable and in a more convenient location. I intend to try the
West Side Y on my next trip.
