Badlands national park is made up of two units, North and South. The
visitors center and the park lodge are in the North unit. Just south of the
park boundary on the road that runs South from the visitors center there is
a small motel. The rooms are nice and have A/C, and there is a pool. When
we stayed there rooms were $34.00 a night. That was about 4 years ago
though. we were camping, but my son couldn't handle the heat (100) so we
got a room.
What will you be driving? If you have a vehicle with good ground clearance
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you drive into the back country areas of the South
Unit. Sights you will remember the rest of your life. We did it in my Jeep
Cherokee with out using 4 wheel drive and there were people up there in a
Ford minivan so it's not to rough. Check with the visitor's center and they
will tell you where to go. Forget it if it's raining.
When we where in the Black Hills we camped in Wind Caves NP and Custer State
Park.
Will you be driving West of the Black Hills on I-90? If so I would also
recommend a side trip to see Devils Tower NM. It just over the Wyoming
border a few miles North of I-90
