Like everyone has said- you could stay in Washington for a month and
still have must sees left to do.
My personal favorites are the National Gallery (huge art museum). If you
like the Impressionists, you could spend a full day there. But that
could be said for almost any type of art they have. It's just huge and
glorious. And it has lots of "OH- there it is. The original!" type
pictures- if you get a kick out of that sort of thing.
The Roosevelt Memorial is lovely- much quieter than the others. A nice
change of pace.
Don't miss the smaller, private museums away from the mall. I
particularly liked the textile museum, but there are literally dozens to
choose from, depending on your interests.
Lots of people have commented on the crowds. In April and May, the
crowds consist of thousands of class trips- both local schools and the
seniors from schools all over the country who are making their class
trips before graduation. They're either fun or extremely annoying,
depnding on your point of view. But in either case, their are huge herds
of them. It's probably a bit less mobbed as soon as things open- so be
there EARLY each day- though the things off the mall- and probably the
Roosevelt momument less so.
Enjoy!
