Ray, I'm a big Vertigo fan (in fact I watched it again just
last night) and on my last trip to San Francisco I visited
several of the sites used in the movie.

Hitchcock loved San Francisco and included many of
his favorite spots in the movie. Most of the interior shots
in the movie were actually filmed in a studio, but most
exterior shots were real places.

Several of the places are easy to find as they are popular
tourist spots anyway, but others are more obscure and you
won't find them unless you've done some research first.
For example, the house where Jimmy Stewart lived in
the movie is still there, but you'd probably drive right past
it without noticing unless you knew where to look.

There are several web sites that discuss the locations
used in the movie and how to visit them. For example:

http://www.widescreencinema.com/vertigo/tour.html
http://gocalifornia.about.com/cs/sanfrancisco/a/vertigo_2.htm
http://www.basichip.com/vertigo/main.htm

If you want to look for more sites, do a Google search
for "Vertigo San Francisco tour -U2" . (The "-U2" tells
Google to ignore any search results containing "U2";
otherwise you'll get tons of links to articles about the
Vertigo album by the band U2.)

Enjoy your trip,

Jim
