Hi Elise

Speaking as a Brit who regularly visits California (I worked out that
I have driven well over 15,000 miles in the SouthWest USA over the
years) stop worrying about it.

I would far, far, rather drive in the Los Angeles rush hour than on
the M6 in the UK - and I am not joking, I speak from personal
experience; I have frequently driven in the Los Angeles morning rush
hour on the way to LAX for our flight home. It is a doddle compared
to British motorways.

One thing to be aware of though is that overtaking on either side of a
car is perfectly legal so if you happen to be in a middle lane, then
be careful before changing lanes, somebody may be about to overtake
you on the "inside". Also be aware that it is normally legal to turn
right on a red light; and that it is illegal to overtake a parked
school bus. They are the main things that "threw" my wife and myself
on our first driving holiday many years ago. Other than that, enjoy
yourself and make the most of the cheap "gas".

Oh one other thing, if you drive into the desert, find a good Country
and Western radio station on the car radio - very atmospheric!!! 8^)

Regards
