You've gotten many responses. I agree with most of them. Let me tell
you that, during two weeks in London, I learned to never cross the
street alone except late at night when there wasn't anything in sight
that was on the move.

Sitting behind the wheel on the other side of the car and shifting
with m'left hand was adapted to without a second thought. Staying on
the correct side of the road, however, was not and looking the
correct way . . . well, one time, on the way to returning the car, I
hit another one.

The trick, I think, is to have an alert passenger working as an
auxiliary head and eyes. When I got in the accident, I was across the
street from my imminent passenger's home.

I have resolved to never again drive on the other side of the road
nor to cross the street without someone at my side. I'm lucky to be
alive.

As for speed, I didn't see much dif'rence 'tween the speeds on the M1
and local highways. Same's true of Driving in Italy
at the site at
Right in the sig.

My hope is to not be on the same US road at the same time as you.
Nothing personal. I'm sure you feel the same way about me driving there.
