I realize that some people seem to want everyone to know how annoying they
find that tourist attractions that are called that because it is exactly what
they do..... attract tourists. Personally, I tend to avoid places like that
myself. Having spent a lot of the best part of each summer working along the
Niagara Parkway I am always puzzled to hear somebody complain about the
tourist strip, considering that it is such a small part of Niagara. The
tourist traps are limited to about 5 or 6 blocks along two streets. The
Niagara Parks Commission maintains a system of parks that runs most of the
way from Fort Erie to Niagara on the Lake. There are picnic areas, green
houses, a school of horticulture, several golf course, a marine park, the
butterfly conservatory, hydroelectric dam tours, the cable car, hiking trails
into the gorge, winery tours, but then people like you come in and because
of your knowledge of the city being limited to a few blocks of tourist trap,
you think that is all there is. You probably missed everything because you
stayed on the American side where you have that dinky little park and a few
of tourist mecca across the border.
