I would stay at the Rimrock Hotel in Banff. Not as big as the Banff Springs
but with more rooms with better views. The Banff Springs also tends to be a
tourist sight in itself so can be very busy and not so peaceful, where the
Rimrock is the hotel farthest from the town centre and is normally quite.
Both hotels have some hikes that start right outside their doors. You can
rent canoes along the river in Banff and the Bow River in that area is not
bad.
