Subject: Re: Greyhound Routes Eliminated Posted on: Fri, 11 Mar 2005 10:15:58 -0500

A couple of weeks ago there was an article in a business page about the new
face of the bus industry. Apparently, there are some new companies with
business plans similar to Southwest Airlines. The buses go from city to
city, are always full, do not park at expensive downtown bus terminals.

With the high price of fuel, it makes no sense to have a bus pick up two or
three passengers in the middle of no where.

The new bus lines come from the China Town passenger terminals which were
originally used just by Chinese people but became popular with college
students due to price.

If there is a market for bus service, buses will appear. Like the rest of
the American system, the motive to make money is what drives the industry.
Would you operate a bus that lost money?

Greyhound is a turnaround industy right now. It has a new CEO and it is
trying to become profitable. One of its subsidiaries if Laidlaw School Bus
Service.

My guess, and this is just a guess, is that if Greyhound can get diynamic
about what it does, start to sell its brand and operate a fleet of smaller
buses where needed; it will be successful. It can not do this if it is
running routes that are losing money every day.
