There are some parts of Princeton where the rents are pretty
affordable. Along Witherspoon St., and the adjacent small streets, for
instance. This was once Princeton's black neighborhood, but now it is
a mix of black, hispanic and students. I lived there for over 20 years
until I moved to Italy six years ago. It was a pleasant place to live,
within walking distance of everything. Some people will tell you that
there's a lot of crime there, but that is mostly prejudice. I used to
leave my bike on the porch, or in the yard, unlocked, and no one ever
touched it. On the university campus, however, people were always
stealing my baskets, my lights and several times, the whole bike.
