Fantastic city - just got back from a long weekend.
It's about the best late 19th century architecture that the USA has to
offer, great restaurants, nightlife and a beautiful waterfront.
Try to stay on or near the Magnificent Mile - the premier shopping area
north of downtown that is comparable to Fifth Avenue.
Take one or more of the walking tours put on by the Architectural society as
well as a Chicago river architecture boat cruise.
There is small travel reference book called "Top 10 Chicago" - heck there
are "Top 10" books for almost everywhere.
I find them pretty good for manageable references.
