Do you have to return the car to Buffalo, or could you drop it off in
Philadelphia and take the bus or train to New York? That's an
alternate solution.

I agree with the person who suggested staying in Westchester as a
somewhat reasonable option, but keep in mind that trains from Grand
Central do not run all night, whereas subways do.
