Some big cities like NY have taken tipping to extremes, making it almost
an obligation. I will not eat at a restaurant that says 15% gratutity
added for all parties of 6 or more. Thats BS. If service is great I'll
add 20% or more. But I should not be forced to do so. If they feel the
need to charge extra for large parties who spend a ton of money then
I'll take my group elsewhere. Tipping should be totally optional. It
should not go into a pot but directly to the individual. Tipping
started out as a patron giving an individual a little extra. Now its
become part of the business practice. In many countries tipping is
considered an insult. People are already being paid to do their job.
How many jobs do people work their butts off and not get a tip? |
