I rise only to comment that, wherever on Earth we live, there are
cultural aspects of our lives difficult for foreigners to comprehend.
There are things that "everyone knows" and, therefore, do not think
to tell visitors who find out the hard way that, for example, public
transportation stops running at 23:30.
Your questions are valid, Peter, and "everyone knows" the answers
but, as you have seen, we don't agree on exactly what it is that we know.
