You're missing the big picture. A drink you mix at home is not the same as a
mixed drink served to you at a bar or a club. At the club you're not only
paying for the drink and its markup, you're also paying for the atmosphere
provided by the club: the decor, the music, the fact that there are likely
fewer single women in your living room than there are at the club, so on and
so forth. All of that is factored into the price.

I don't know how things work in Ontario but here in Quebec, the government
assumes that a waiter or waitress will make 15% in tips. Based on that
assumption, they automatically tax him/her as if though he/she made those
tips. So if you go somewhere and order a $10 mixed drink, then only tip 50
cents because you feel the mark-up is outrageous, your waitress has to pay
income tax on a dollar she never earned. Even if she agrees with you that
$10 is an outrageous price for a rum-and-coke.
