They really are as are most of the screening methods. The real problem that
needs to be addressed is the chemcial sniffing for such things as C4
explosive, It is the plastic substance that the shoe bomber was trying to
use. A smarter bomber would have suceeded and metal in the shoes would not
have been necessary.
