Of the sites mentioned, I'll second...
1) Millenium Park (although I'm biased - my cousin was involved in
designing it),
2) The Field Museum,
3) The Museum of Science and Industry (this was always my favorite
place to go as a kid),
4) Architectural boat tour (there are several of these tours on the
river, and there are also excellent walking tours available),
5) Wrigley Field (but only because I am a Cubs fan),
6) Lincoln Park Zoo (but only because it's probably one of the only
free zoos left in the US)
I'll also add a few more...
7) the Art Institute (one of the finest art museums in the country),
8) Marshall Field's and Carson Pirie Scott. Even if shopping isn't
your thing, inside and out I think these are two fine examples of the
work of two great Chicago architects of the late 1800s, Louis Sullivan
and Daniel Burnham (who was also responsible for the Columbian
Exposition, and hence, the Museum of Science and Industry).
9) if you're going to the Field Museum, then you might as well visit
the Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium, too. Actually, I think
the aquarium is worth it even if you don't get to the Field Museum.
10) food: Polish sausage, Italian beef, and pizza - but, not all 3 in
the same meal! I'm partial to Luke's (on Jackson) for the beef and
used to go to Maxwell St. for the Polish (I'm not sure if it's still
there - I think UIC forced them out). Luke's is also good for a Polish
or a hot dog. For the pizza, look at the posts a month or so ago and
consider Uno, Due, Gino's, and Giardano's all good recommendations.
Have fun,
:-Dan
