I think one of the big things here is that Aruba is considered to be one of
the "safest" islands in the Caribbean (and it no doubt is). Clearly the
situation would be different if it had happened somewhere considered to
be less safe. They picked the island for that reason, and I think any related
disappearance/death would have made headlines.
