The National Forest Service (which also operates Mt. St. Helens NP) is
run by the Department of Agriculture, while the NWRs, NMs, and NPs are
all run by the Department of Interior. I wouldn't expect the NP pass
to get you very far in a national forest, but then again, there are
also go entry fees to a national forest. In 1994, the $50 included
pretty much everything operated and managed by the Department of
Interior. Sites that were privately or semi-privately managed (like
old homes, other NHPs, etc.) weren't covered by the $50.
Anyhow, I'm glad to hear it's still $50. It's a real bargain for
anyone who plans to visit national park lands several times in a year.
My friends and I definitely got our money's worth back in '94
(especially me, since I hung onto the pass and used it several times
after our road trip).
