Length = the longest dimension (6')

Girth = the circumference (wrap a measuring tape around
the package at a right angle to the length); if the package is
3 inches thick then it would be 6' + 3" + 6' + 3" = 12'-6"

6' (height) + 12''-6" (girth) = 18'-6"

Way too big for the post office, so the "free shipping" offer must be
by some other means.
