If you really want to know why. Think!
After 9-11 the ENTIRE western world was sympathetic to Americans and
the American cause and supported the war on terror. On Sept. 11, in
Canada, thousands of people opened their homes to American travelers
stranded in grounded aircraft redirected to Canadian airports. Canadian
aid was offered to aid the injured and help in the cleaning of the WTC
destruction. Ontario is New York's closest international neighbour and
people here wanted to help. In Europe, the European Union held days of
sympathy for the victims of 9-11 and pledged solidarity to American
efforts to fight terrorism. French President Jacques Chirac announce
"today we are all Americans" The good will, sympathy and support was
immense. Countries such as Canada, France, Germany, Britain, Australia,
and on and on... sent troops to Afghanistan to fight alongside American
troops to eliminate Al-Quedia and the Taliban.
The was NO "western" anti-Americanism after 9-11. Just the opposite,
western nations, and their people wanted to help.
But then things changed... your president squandered all that good will
and support with his senseless invasion of Iraq. The world knew Iraq
was never a threat to America, there were no WMD, there was no link to
9-11. This was a blatant attack on a foreign country to control it's
oil. Bush and his Oil Buddies wanted this war and fooled the American
people to get it. Americans were scared, they were angry, and they
believed their president. Tragically brave young American soldiers are
giving their lives in a futile conflict that has wreaked damage and
destruction on thousands of innocent people.
That's why.
But that is no excuse for people to be rude to an American traveler on a
bus.
