Barcelona reminded me more of Chicago than New York. It has a little
more open space than New York, has a strong connection to architecture,
and just felt more like Chicago to me. Regarding Barcelona as a
comparison to San Diego, I can see it, but the water is cold (at least
it was in mid-June). For what it's worth, Valencia actually reminded
me more of San Diego than Barcelona (except that Montjuic reminded me
more of Balboa Park than anyplace in Valencia), and even though it's
quite a bit smaller, there were many parts of Valencia that also
reminded me of many neighborhoods in New York. So, I'll throw in
Valencia as another possibility.
