You're right, there isn't much about the United States that would qualify it
as a democracy. The concept of Democracy where all the citizens (demos) voted
on all the laws originated from the Greeks; the founding fathers of the
United States much more heavily favored the republic, i.e. elected
representatives making the laws as used by the Roman Republic, Senate and
all. KM
