I keep reading this falsehood, and wonder why people keep repeating it?
Perhaps they just don't like Kerry, and shove truth off to the side. Or
perhaps they just don't know what they are talking about. . . . . .
Perhaps both.
First of all, there was nothing safe about Swift Boat coastal patrol
duty.
Second, there was little that a guy in the Navy could do in Vietnam
which put him in harms way to a large degree. Being on the Swifts was
about as close as one could get.
Last, what Kerry was doing at the time, and what he could have
volunteered for, was MUCH safer than what he actually volunteered for.
What really cracks me up is these people who say Kerry was such a
coward, how he did his best to avoid combat, etc. Then, when Kerry was
in combat (the combat that he, you know, tried so hard to avoid), they
talk about how reckless he was, and how he shouldn't have left his boat
to chase down that VC because his boat was left helpless, etc, etc, ad
nauseum.
I would suggest that you can't have it both ways. Choose one, and try
to stick to it.
