I think a lot depends on the personality of the visitor. Now
personally I'd LOVE to spend 5 relaxed days at the Canyon,
spending time just sitting and enjoying the view, attending ranger
talks,
enjoying all the exhibits at the Visitor's Center, etc. But many folks
would probably feel the urge to move on after a day or two.

According to the National Geographic web site, the Rim Trail
is wheelchair acccessible rom the Mather Point overlook to the
trailhead of the Bright Angel Trail (the most popular trail into the
Canyon; located in the Grand Canyon Village near the Bright
Angel Lodge).

As the name implies, the Rim Trail is a trail along the Canyon's rim.
It's paved and wheelchair accessible in the areas named above,
and has spectacular views. It passes thru the Grand Canyon Village,
where you'll find hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops. If you can
afford it and can get reservations, a hotel in the Village area would
be
extremely convenient, as the Rim Walk is just a few feet away. (But
make sure that the hotel is wheelchair accessible.)
