Subject: Re: Border patrol checkpoints -- 100 miles from the border, in Vermont! Posted on: Mon, 15 Aug 2005 13:52:31 +0000 (UTC)

According to news reports, the checkpoint was established in late 2003
under a federal law that permits checkpoints if they are within 100
miles of a border. It's an attempt to catch at least some of the people
who have successfully sneaked across the boder.

Some Vermont residents have complained that it slows traffic and that
there are alternate routes available if someone wanted to sneak by;
however people who support it point to the fact that over 600 illegal
aliens have been apprehended at the checkpoint since it opened.
