If you're not renting the car, $75 PER PERSON per day would be do-able.
Depends on where you're traveling, when you're traveling, and how far per
day you're traveling, and whether you're touring, sightseeing, etc. along
the way or just going from overnighting in city A to overnight in city B.
If you plan to mostly visit "big" expensive cities -- Washington, DC;
NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, etc. -- to see the sights, that is, you'd
be staying in each city several days, I'd push your budget up to $150 to
$200 per day per person.
If you'd give more details on your trip, you'd get better cost estimates.
