Try looking for a car with a semi-automatic ("triptronic")
transmission. That would give you the best of both worlds: no clutch
(a boon for the stop-and-go traffic of DC) and the ability to manually
change gears at your choice. The only downside is that these are
usually only found on luxury cars (Acura, Lexus, etc.) which cost more
to rent.
