If any of the privately owned historic homes along the Battery have an
open house they are usually worth seeing. One of the local
civic/historic organizations will sponsor a tour. You'll find them
usually listed on the calendar available from the Visitors and
Convention Center.

If you've rented a car you might want to visit nearby islands. Egar
Allen Poe was imprisoned in a fort/jail that is now privately owned and
either on Mount Pleasant or Sullivan's Island. My memory is a little
vague on that one. As with the privately owned homes along the Battery,
the place where Edgar Allen Poe was held is open once or twice a year
for touring.
