I take this to be describing the following itinerary:
1. Toronto - Philadelphia (land)
2. Philadelphia - some place (air)
3. some place - Newark (air)
4. Newark - Toronto (land)
If not, you need to clarify what you mean.
For Toronto-Philadelphia I can only say that there is no convenient
train route; you would have to go via New York. If you can't find an
affordable flight, you're looking at bus travel. I don't know the
schedules. If you arrive in Philadelphia at the Greyhound bus terminal,
you're right near SEPTA's Market East commuter train station, with
trains to the airport every 30 minutes, taking about 30 minutes.
For Newark-Toronto, you could take the train from New York, but it
only runs once a day, so you might well have to stop overnight.
I don't know about bus schedules. Assuming that you have to go into
New York for the train or bus, at Newark Airport you can get the
Airtrain to the airport train station, then either an Amtrak or a
New Jersey Transit train (NJT probably being cheaper and more
reliable) to New York Penn Station. The Amtrak train to Toronto
leaves from there, and New York's main bus terminal (the Port
Authority terminal) is about 1/2 mile north.
