Subject: Re: Places with the least natural disasters Posted on: Sat, 17 Sep 2005 15:10:43 -0400

Let's not forget inadvertent human disasters. When we had the big
electrical blackout a few years ago, it wasn't a big problem. People
talked to their neighbors and gazed at the sudden proliferation of
stars. With a small telescope you got a fantastic view of the features
of Mars and could see Uranus in the same view. But imagine an
electrical blackout in January. People could freeze to death.

BUt let's get real. There are things that scare people and things that
kill people. The two are usually not the same. People fear planes, mad
cow, natural disasters, but they die in cars, from butulism and obesity.
