Similar experience at Brennan's in the late 70's - add to that a Sunday
breakfast at Court of the Two Sisters, sitting in the beautifully treed
courtyard - oh yeah, don't forget the mint julips - wonderful food
before the rest of North America's restaurants caught up to NO quality.
We, five, flew from Toronto to NO in a small plane (a Cessna Skymaster)
and arrived very late Friday night. The French Quarter was still
bustling with activity - we walked around, ate a late dinner, drank,
listened to music, had coffee and beignets in the early morning hours at
Cafe du Monde - slept late on Saturday - bought some antiques and
jewelery for my wife (who was with me, btw) did site seeing Sunday -
then flew back Monday through/over the most frightening yet beautiful
thunderstorm over Ohio - Great Thanksgiving Day weekend!
We watched CNN with great sadness seeing the effects of the broken
levees on that city and its people.
