I wondered the same thing. Disneyland (no cap "l" in the middle)
will always, always be my favorite Disney park. I first visited
it a year or two after it opened, and I love its intimate design.
(Folks who grew up with WDW call it "small." :-))

But no way is WDW a clone of it. Even the Magic Kingdom, the one
park at WDW that most closely resembles DL, is not the same. And
then there are all the other parks Shawn listed. Some of the rides
at DL are repeated in parks other than the MK at WDW, but that's
just a tiny portion of what those parks have. There is absolutely
nothing like Epcot (especially the World Showcas section) at DL,
and of course nothing remotely resembling Animal Kingdom. (Which
is like a cross between a theme park and SDZ's Wild Animal Park.)

Not to mention the huge amount of acreage at WDW that isn't
developed at all. I stayed at Port Orleans last time I was there,
and as often as possible, I took the boat down the Sassagoula
River to Downtown Disney. It was delightful floating through
the forested areas.

Anyway, DL and WDW are two *very* different places, and I wouldn't
hesitate recommending WDW to someone who's looking for a theme-
park experience and hasn't been there before.

Having said that, if the OP is willing to forego the theme park
idea, I concur with the suggestions of visiting Hawai'i instead.
