Agreed. There are also Hispanic neighborhoods that are fun to walk
around -- Mainland Latin American (Mexico through Argentina) in
Jackson Heights near the 182 and 190 St. stops on the 7 train;
Dominican in West Harlem and Washington Heights (West 130s-Dyckman St.
or so, west of Central Harlem); mostly Caribbean Hispanic (Dominican,
Puerto Rican) in East Harlem, which centers around 3rd Av. and 116 St.
(the West African area centers around 8th Av., I believe).

Nowadays, Soho rents are too expensive for most galleries nowadays,
and way west in Chelsea (starting around 23rd St. or so west of 10th
Av.) is the area in Manhattan where galleries are proliferating. There
are still a good number on 57 St. and on the Upper East Side between
5th and Madison, though. And Williamsburg, as you mention.

The Met is a must; there's so much to see there.
