Subject: Re: Latest on Ethan Allen tragedy Posted on: Mon, 10 Oct 2005 09:00:51 EDT

I just heard on the news that the maximum weight allowable for the boat was
145lbs per passenger. This was set over 35 years ago and has not been
upgraded. I guess now the allowance is 175 lbs per passenger. The Ethan
Allen is not designed to hold 50 passengers at 175 lbs each.

The main cause of the sinking appears to be too much weight and that weight
shifting all at the same time. Boat just couldn't handle it.
