I haven't experienced slow service, but I rarely require much bandwidth
when I travel. I usually just check my email and send the ocassional
photo as a postcard.
The problem I have with hotel broadband is when its wireless. Just this
past week, I stayed in a DoubleTree that offered wireless access in-room
for $4 per day. I signed up for the first day, but the zone where my
laptop received the wireless signal was only a few feet from the hotel
room's door. If I took my laptop from the desk in the room to the bed,
the signal would drop. On the other hand, I also discovered that the
network administrators of that hotel did not block out all the network
ports so I was able to open up an ssh session to my Unix server back at
work and check my email that way for free during the remaining three
days of my stay at that hotel. |
