I've seen the Colosseum, Acropolis, and Forum, as well as
brief visits to Verona and Milan. The former three, which
were the interesting ones, ARE MUSEUMS! Interestingly, when I
spent an evening in Munich with a friend from Germany,
he took us to a "typical real Munich tavern" which reminded
me a lot of two places where I live, one a campus bar, another
in Gibson City about 40 miles away (a German immigrant town).
Amazingly close resemblance .... and then it dawned on me to
as the fatal question "when was this place built"? The answer:
only half as long ago as the two in America, due to you-know-what.
(Of course, some old taverns did survive, just not this one.)

Try Lamayuru ... NOT deserted, and older, far older. NOT yet JUST a
museum ... though of course it is that too. Amazing. Google. I've been
there. No place like THAT in Europe!
