If by wine count(r)y, you mean Napa-Sonoma counties, this area is north of
San Francisco and would be best visited by car. Parking a car in San
Francisco is expensive and difficult. So maybe pick up a car on the way out
of SF, visit the wineries, etc, then head towards Sacramento and pick up I-5
south to LA. This assumes (1) you're drving to LA and (2) you don't want to
take the slower, prettier, more interesting coast routes.
