The public transportation option is to take the AirBART shuttle ($2)
bus to BART's Coliseum station, then take BART from there to some
station in San Francisco (see http://www.bart.gov for station locations,
schedules, and fares). It is likely to be faster than taking a cab
during commute hours.

If your destination in San Francisco is downtown, OAK is not really
significantly further (time-wise by public transportation) than SFO
is.

Jet Blue has one of its hubs in Long Beach (i.e. lots of flight options),
although they also fly from Burbank and Ontario to New York.
