The town Bill's talking about it spelt Kihei in Maui, and Bill is absolutely
right that there are great deals on lots of condos just across the street
from lovely beaches. You can even jog down to the Grand Wailea from there,
and wander the grounds...:-) Lots of cute and cheap shopping in the
international markets Kihei for the kids, close to the Maalea harbor for
snorkeling trips, close to the main cross island road to get to the airport,
and the beach to watch the pro windsurfers. Not too far from Lahaina. Very
close to the upscale shops at Wailea for window shopping (though make a
reservation for dinner at Tommy Bahamas, for a splurge dinner it's not as
expensive as some of the other places, but just as good, my 10 and 15 year
old love it.) It's a great location on Maui, can get to everything easy
from there (day trip to Hana, bike trip from the top of Haleakala). And
there are wonderful beaches for the days the kids just want to hang out on
the sand.
