I'm a new resident in the Atlanta area, and I'm planning to drive to DC
for Thanksgiving, and I needed advice on which would be the better
route. I used to live in Jackson, MS., and we would drive 20 E to 85 N
to 95 N, so I have experience with this route, and I generally know
what to expect (The neverending construction on I-85 in SC and NC come
to mind). However, the only reason why I'm asking is because I've
mapped out the route on several websites. Mapquest and Windows Live
both say 85 N to 95 N, roughly a 10 1/2 to 11 hour drive. Google Maps
wanted me to head north on 85 to Charlotte, and then take I-77 north to
Virginia to I-81 north to I-66 east to the Beltway I-495. That route
would take 13 hours, so that is out of the question (Google maps can
give some funky directions when they want to)
However, another route provided by Yahoo! Maps intrigued me. It
suggests that I take I-75 north (which is by where I live, hallelujah!)
to Knoxville, and head East on I-40 and then north on I-81 to I-66 to
I-495. Now, they say this route would take approximately 9 hours or so.
Has anyone taken the Yahoo suggested route? Has anyone out there driven
either route who could give me a suggestion?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks,
LB
