Actually, you're thinking of the Pigeon River Gorge area and the area
east of Asheville on I-40, which wouldn't be on that route.
The only section of I-40 this route follows is between Knoxville and
I-81 which really only has just ordinary rolly terrain, crossing over a
few small ridges. Nothing that would cause you to drop typical highway
speeds.
