Actually, the part you snipped said to only take I-40 to I-81. That stretch
of highway really isn't too bad at all. The stretch of I-40 where you're
thinking of is probably east of it's junction with I-81. As for I-81, it
seems to avoid the worst of Appalachia and there are really no bad curves on
the road like parts of I-76 in PA and I-68 in WV and MD. The worst it gets
is a couple of steep grades, which really aren't bad compared to those on
I-68 in MD.
